Integrity Taylor has regained possession of her ancestral lands - and inherited a whole host of new problems. The specter of what really happened to her parents is casting a shadow over everything, while Fomori demons are being sighted up and down the Highlands. It doesn't help that Aifric Moncrieffe still seems determined to see her dead, and emerald-eyed Byron remains stubbornly blind to his father's true nature.

Integrity is determined to stay in control of her own destiny, however, even if it means confronting the darkness across the Veil yet again. And at least she's still got a sense of humor....

Veiled Threat Highland Magic Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Helen Harper Saskia Maarleveld Tantor Audio Books

Even as a pacifist, newly-instated "Chieftain" Integrity finds action, adventure and trouble to dig herself into. The mystery and intrigue--that was set up when Integrity begins to uncover her past in book 1, and escalated with the crumbling facade of 'honour' between the Clans in book 2--begins to peak in this book as the new Adair Clan coalesces. Of course there's much humour both from Integrity's endless terrible jokes (I snickered aloud) and the hodgepodge of strange characters (my favourite still being Bob the filter-less, soap-watching, pop-culture-referencing, and remorseless tease of a genie) that have accompanied her or been acquired as she starts her life back on her family's land. Don't forget the past sexual tension with Byron Moncreiffe, which is certainly not lacking from this book too! But the excitement that pulled me in rises as it becomes increasingly obvious that Integrity may be right about her father's innocence, the Steward's guilt, and that the secrets involve a lot more serious, dangerous, and massive (like Scotland-wide) horrors that Integrity must face... like Fomori demons.
I think this is my favorite in this series so far. Harper's writing is again perfect and concise, the plot's pace quick, the humour entertaining, the emotions palpable, and the mystery entrancing. Another great urban fantasy read!

Veiled Threat Highland Magic Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Helen Harper Saskia Maarleveld Tantor Audio Books Reviews

I started a month or two ago reading the first novel, A Gifted Thief. All I can tell Ms. Harper is 'more!!'.

I love all of the characters, the plot and the wonderful writing style. I read several books per week and finding this series is like finding a treasure.

If you enjoy fantasy and a snarky heroine, this series is for you. I can't wait for the next one.
I love this series!! Integrity and the whole gang including the disbelieving Byron were great. It was definitely amusing how Clan Adair is rising and building. I have a feeling the next book is going to be even greater. I can't wait to read it. If you love paranormal, romance, action and humorous situations you will love this read. Integrity is the queen of snark and bad jokes, she's the best. Lol
I have read books 1, 2, & now 3 back to back in the last 12 hours. I am addicted to this series. Each successive book gets better & better. Each one finishing on a cliff hanger. I can’t stop reading. I’m hooked on the characters. Each one quirkier than the last, but they just seem to leap off the page. The plot grabbed me from the beginning & never let up till the end!
While I fell in love with this series as soon as I started reading it, I can easily draw parallels to other books by Helen Harper. This can be both a little distracting and repetitive. Despite this, there is an originality to the story's plot and characters that I've not read before. The book is enjoyable and keeps me glued to it till I finish it. All these books (so far) have amazing sensory cues and I find extraordinary vocabulary throughout. I would recommend this series to anyone who's interested in Scottish legends/lore, fantasy, strong (and unique) protagonists, cunning antagonists, and a creative (yet intriguing) plotline.
I really enjoyed the first two books, and highly recommend due to great writing and story. I looked forward to what I thought would be the conclusion of the saga. But this book made it clear that this will be an ongoing story, designed to keep one hanging until the next installment comes out. The book is relatively short, and you're done reading it before you know it.

Reading this is sort of like paying on the installment plan for a much longer book.
I am enjoying this series which seems to be getting better as it progresses. By that I mean that the author's writing and/or understanding of her character's motivations etc is becoming more refined and the characters are gaining more nuance. The heroine, Integrity, is very kick ass and I love the fact that she is a pacifist who uses violence only as a very last resort. One of the weak spots of the series is the love interest who, thus far, has very little personality and what he does have is not that appealing (to me). His main personality traits seem to be his floppy bangs and emerald eyes, and yes, I realize that those aren't personality traits. This does not detract from the appeal of the heroine and her motley crew of compatriots and especially the setting which is an alternate reality Scotland. For anyone who loves Scottish culture and people you will enjoy the tongue in cheek portrayals here.

I recommend this series highly (and keep going because it gets better as it goes) and will be looking out for future works by Helen Harper.
In this installment of the Highland Magic series, Helen Harper gets Integrity, her Sidhe heroine, back onto her clan lands. Before too much time has passed, the historic clan lands have become the Island of Misfit Toys, straight out of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer trolls galore, haggises aplenty, even a very haughty and designer-dressed Sidhe debutante (formerly Integrity's childhood nemesis and romantic rival) are hanging out with Integrity, many swearing fealty, and all of them ready to band with the close-knit band of friends and former thieves Integrity calls her family. In this novel, Integrity devotes herself to overturning the disgrace of her father's alleged mass genocide of their clan. Evidence that points to Sidhe Steward (who happens to be the father of Hottie McHotpants, Byron) as the real guilty party mounts. Byron still believes Daddy Dearest is pure as driven snow, but even he can't ignore the facts. A varied group of supporting characters--including a hideous but woefully abused demon named May, rescued by Integrity from below the veil--enriches this book, and the clear, clever writing, quick pacing, and suspenseful plot make this book well worth reading. Can't wait for the next book!
Even as a pacifist, newly-instated "Chieftain" Integrity finds action, adventure and trouble to dig herself into.
